A Real Chat About Reinvention, Bold Moves & Being Unapologetically Badass
Okay, so I have to tell you—I recently had the most energizing conversation with two incredible women: Renee Carone Fleming and Sierra Whitener. If you’re not already following them, do it now. They’re the dynamic duo behind the Unapologetically Badass podcast, and they are exactly what their brand promises—bold, brilliant, and completely unfiltered in the best way.
We hopped on a call to chat about all the things: business, reinvention, making bold moves after 40, and what it really looks like to show up unapologetically as yourself in a world that loves to put women in boxes.
Let me tell you… it was one of those conversations that stayed with me long after we hit “end.”
When Reinvention Feels Scary (But So Worth It)
What I loved most is how honest Renee and Sierra were about the messy middle. You know that season where you’re pivoting or adding something new to your brand, and it feels exciting and terrifying at the same time? Been there. They’ve both been there, too—whether it was switching companies, stepping away from a long-term role, launching something completely new, or simply saying out loud, “I want more.”
They didn’t sugarcoat it. Fear is part of it. Self-doubt is part of it. But they reminded me (and hopefully you!) that you don’t have to wait for perfect timing or permission to chase what lights you up.
Real Talk for Women Building What’s Next
Both Renee and Sierra shared their stories of how they got to where they are today—from military service and corporate roles to building boutiques, launching personal brands, and writing books. It’s not a straight path. And that’s the point.
What they’ve built now—Badass Queen Coaching, DUJAMI boutique, their podcast, and so much more—comes from a deep place of knowing who they are and what they stand for. And I’m so here for it.
It was also a beautiful reminder that for so many women, our “next chapter” doesn’t start in our 20s or even 30s. There’s something magical that happens after 40. You care less about the judgment. You lean into what feels good. You own your voice. And you stop apologizing for going after the life (and business) you actually want.
If You’re Making a Bold Move Right Now…
Maybe you’re shifting directions. Maybe you’re layering something new into your brand. Maybe you’re wondering, “Are people going to think I’ve lost it if I post this?”
If that’s you, just know this: you’re not alone. And truly? Most people aren’t watching as closely as you think they are. Do what’s best for you. Be honest, be kind, and keep moving forward.
As Sierra said during our chat, “Behind the scenes, we don’t know what someone’s going through. They might be this close to losing their car and just need a new stream of income. Don’t judge the pivot. Celebrate the courage.”
Words I’m Carrying With Me…
Renee’s go-to mantra? “Watch me.” I love that energy.
Sierra’s? “Believe in the beauty of your dreams.” Even better.
And if you need a little boost of both, go follow them. You’ll thank me later.
