What Successful Direct Sellers Are Doing Differently
Growing your biz is rarely about doing more. So often, it comes down to doing a few things differently and doing them like clockwork. We reached out to some of the most driven sellers in our community and asked one simple question: What are you doing that’s actually working right now? Their answers were pure gold, and the best part is that any of us can borrow them.
The Magic of Doing Less
Sometimes the biggest growth comes from doing less, not more. Marcia McMaster, who runs LBD Naturally Beautiful across a few different product lines, has made less-is-more her whole vibe, and it works.
Instead of lugging every single item to an event, she brings a focused selection and gently guides each customer toward what actually solves a problem for them. She keeps it simple: what the product is, the problem it solves, and how it makes life a little better.
Amy Ziegler, a 22-year Tastefully Simple seller, does the same magic with bundles. Rather than selling one product, she pulls three together into a fun themed solution, and it has boosted her sales by more than 50%. When you curate instead of pile it on, customers find it so much easier to say yes!
Catching Every Lead Before It Slips Away
We’ve all been there. The event is buzzing, the line is moving, and somewhere in the chaos those leads slip right through our fingers. The sellers winning here have turned lead capture into one easy little step.
Amy simply hands her phone to each customer at checkout with a quick form for their name, phone, and email. The result is a whopping 95% completion rate, no messy handwriting, and zero typos to chase down later. So good.
Diana, one of our Modern Direct Seller VIP members, leans on the Connect and Convert tool inside her Oh My Hi website. A customer fills out a form on her phone or scans a QR code, and they automatically get a personalized email with whatever they asked for, whether that’s a booking link or a guide. No lead left behind, and the follow-up keeps happening even when life gets busy.
Going Digital On Your Own Terms
Going digital doesn’t mean chasing every shiny new trend. The most creative sellers are picking one channel that feels like them and working it well.
Amber tapped into Facebook Marketplace in a way most of us totally overlook. When someone messages her, she starts a real conversation, helps them build their order, and sends an invoice that ships straight from her website. She also works weeks ahead, scheduling content in tiny daily batches so she’s always showing up. Talk about organized!
Paige Swenson, a strength and nutrition coach with The Faster Way to Fat Loss, launched a short private podcast where she shared her own story alongside a few expert friends. It was way simpler to pull off than she expected, and it added around 75 new email subscribers to a list she fully owns. We love a good lead magnet!
Leading With Relationships and Heart
At the end of the day, business is still all about the people, and the sellers thriving right now are the ones leading with connection.
Lisa Kirkley with Photo Solutions Forever recently hit number one in her company with over $15,800 in sales. Her secret? Meeting people right where they are, whether that’s a vendor event, a one-on-one appointment, or community education, then using a website questionnaire to really get what someone wants before she ever sells. Her CRM keeps all that follow-up nice and tight.
Evelyn Abernathy, whose Purple Essence by Evelyn brand features Jafra Cosmetics and doTERRA Essential Oils, runs a whopping 98% of her business online through her Oh My Hi website. She leads with education, sharing blog posts and quizzes that help people learn about themselves, and she creates full experiences instead of just dropping product links. That warm, helpful approach is exactly what keeps her customers coming back for more.
Small Shifts, Big Results
What we love most about all of these sellers is the intention behind what they do. They’re not hustling harder just to hustle. They’re choosing the right things, showing up consistently, and letting the results speak for themselves.
