You’re Not Behind. You’re Just Blooming On Time.

We hear it all the time in direct sales and beyond: You have to believe in yourself.

But what happens when that belief feels out of reach, when your mind is noisy, your progress feels slow, or you find yourself wondering if you’re “too much” or “not enough”?

If any of that resonates, you’re in good company.

Kim Underwood, a business leader, mentor, and longtime voice on St. Louis radio, has learned to navigate these questions by leaning into her story instead of running from it. Through counseling, cancer recovery, community-building, and years of leadership in the field, she’s learned that growth doesn’t always look loud, linear, or perfectly planned. And most of the time, you already have what it takes, you just haven’t given yourself credit for it yet.

Growth is a Trust Fall

If you’re wired to achieve, you’ve probably asked yourself: Am I doing enough? Did I earn this? Shouldn’t I be further by now?

Even after a new rank or milestone, those doubts don’t disappear, they just morph. And if you’re not careful, they’ll convince you that success only counts if it looks a certain way.

Kim’s story reminds us that the real work isn’t in looking qualified on paper, but in continuing to show up, even when the process feels messy or non-traditional. Whether you’re stepping into a leadership role that came through an unexpected path or launching a new system that feels outside your comfort zone, the question shifts from whether you’re “ready” to whether you’re willing to trust yourself while you grow.

Spoiler: You can do hard things. And your timeline is valid.

Being Enough Comes From Knowing

One of the most striking insights Kim offers is around that sneaky, lingering feeling that we’re either too much or not enough. Sometimes both at once. And when that voice gets loud, it’s tempting to hustle for approval, hoping that the next goalpost will finally shut it down.

But the truth is, worth isn’t earned by hitting quotas or staying “on” all the time. It’s something you start to reclaim when you surround yourself with the right support, speak truth to your inner critic, and let go of the need to compete with other people’s pace. Because when you’re focused on proving, you’ll always feel behind. When you’re focused on people, that’s when the real growth happens.

Show Up Like Someone’s Listening

In her day job as a radio host, Kim talks to hundreds of thousands of people every day, but she’s never trying to impress a crowd. Her goal? Make every listener feel like she’s just talking to them.

That same intention shows up in how she approaches her business and supports other women in the field. Whether she’s offering encouragement, sharing what’s worked for her, or simply walking alongside someone on their growth journey, her focus stays on connection, not performance, reminding us that consistency always beats perfection.

Keep Going. Even If It’s Quiet.

You’re not falling behind just because someone else bloomed earlier. Wildflowers don’t grow in straight lines, and neither do we. Some seasons are slow. Some feel chaotic.

And sometimes, you just need someone to speak life into your work and remind you: You’re allowed to do it your way. You’re allowed to do it scared. And you’re allowed to bloom late, sideways, or out of order.

So if you’re in a sticky season, know that you’re not disqualified. You’re not invisible. You’re not too late.

You’re just in progress, and that’s where the good stuff happens.
