Why YOU need a VIP facebook Group
Do you need a VIP Group? Yes, yes, you do!!! 🙂Â
One of my biggest takeaways in this book biz is that you need to meet your customers on whatever platform they spend time on. And, facebook is the primary social media platform. Plus, if you’re running online parties – you know your customers are already there!
First off, let’s get the facts of the matter – it’s against facebook policy to use your personal page for your business. Plus, it’s annoying. Flat out: annoying. Don’t spam your friends. So, take it to a group where your customers and fans WANT to connect with you. Invite your friends, family, hostesses and customers to join your VIP group. Let them opt-in! You want to create a high-quality group of book-lovers that are loving your posts.
Next up, provide VALUE. Hate to break it to you, but nobody wants to see the home office branded images on a daily basis. They want to see YOU. They want to get literacy tips, special deals and offers and learn about new books. Also, they want a glimpse into your day-to-day life, so give it to them! Pay attention to which posts get the most interaction and build on that. It’s a learning experience and a fun way to market your biz online.
I recommend starting with a VIP facebook group and posting a few times a week. Once you have some followers and have an idea of what is working, then consider creating a facebook business page, as well. If you’re using instagram to market your book biz, then you’ll need a facebook business page to view insights. A business page will give you credibility and help your local customers find you a bit easier. Also, you’ll need a business page to do advertising when you’re ready for that.
Have fun with it! Share a comment below on what posts typically give you the most engagement!

Would it be better to just make a fb page rather than a closed group?
Hi Tessa! I definitely recommend doing both. The page is public, it’s like your virtual business card. It’s a great way for people to find you when they are searching Facebook. However, most Direct Sales companies (including Usborne) don’t allow you to post any discount deal or customer special on a public page. It must be done in a closed group. Plus, a closed group is more visible because your members get notifications whenever you post!
