Facebook Parties 101

30daytraining, UBAM | 36 comments

You’ve likely already learned that Usborne Books & More loves us some Facebook. We party on Facebook. We have groups on Facebook. We meet customers on Facebook. We make friends on Facebook. Whether you’re a Facebook junkie or new to the Facebook scene, you’re going to learn MORE about Facebook in the next few weeks as you launch your business.

Facebook and I have a love-hate relationship. It’s a total time-suck which drives me nuts. I’ve actually turned off the newsfeed when I’m on my desktop working so I’m not easily distracted. However, I love Facebook because I’m able to connect with friends, family, customers, and hostesses ALL over the country. I love Facebook because it’s a fantastic platform (that everyone already uses) for me to get books in the hands of kids everywhere, and it doesn’t even require their parents and grandparents to leave the house to shop for them. It’s a fantastic tool to run your business.

Watch this short video to learn:

  • How to set up your first Facebook party
  • What and when to post
  • How to find graphics and videos
  • Tips to maximize attendance and engagement

Becky’s Bonus Tip: Consider cinchshare to help you schedule out your posts so you don’t forget!

Your To-Do List:

  • Watch this 8-minute video on setting up your first facebook party
  • Set up your first event on facebook! Invite your Sponsor or Team Leader to check it out before adding guests that said they would like an invite.
  • Create a “script” to use during your party.
  • Comment below with what book or video you want to make sure to highlight during your party.
  • Download the 30 Day Launch Workbook.

I see for this video you created an event on Facebook rather than a group. What is the difference there because I have seen more “groups” made than events for Facebook parties?

Hi Katie! Ohhhh… this is an older video! Most of us have switched from Events to Groups for a few reasons. 1) You can schedule your posts within FB on Groups or using a 3rd party like Vizzlie or Cinchshare. You can’t do that in Events any longer. 2) FB tends to favor groups so you’ll get more visibility there than in an Event. So sorry for the confusion – Go with a group!! 🙂 -Becky

I am definitely going to highlight the shine a light books, my son’s favorite books. Question–Can I just pull youtube videos to use for my parties? Do I have to ask permission? Just wondered how that worked. Thanks!

Hi Michele, the Shine a Light books are always a hit! I think if the YouTube video is set to “public” you should be fine to share it in your party.

Hi! Thank you SO much for these trainings… I was feeling very overwhelmed before finding you!!

I like to feature the shine a light books bc (a) there are lots of choices, (b) they’re fun for a wide variety of ages (so reading together is encouraged!), and (c) they’re a great way to learn new things!!

I really like the wipe clean books and I want to share those with people at the party just because I believe along with reading that writing is just as important! And why not start early!?

I took advantage of the February Go Bold special and received 7 books in my starter kit. As awesome of a deal that was, and I couldn’t pass up, I am eager to get more UBAM books! I really like Nibbles the Book Monster book and can’t wait to get more. I can really see myself getting into this book by getting expressive and interacting with it and my kiddos loving it! For the infant age group I really like the Baby’s Very First Slide and See. It’s simple but yet colorful to draw attention and engages babies for brain development. And of course I love the concept of the Shine a Light series!

I love all the books, my child really likes the “That’s not my…” collection, I think because it has different textures to it. I love the anatomy books but I’m a little bias because I want to be a nurse. I also really like the math and space books I think especially the math will help cater to my friends kids.

Unfortunately, I dont yet have many UBAM books, so dont have any personal recommendations. Am devouring the catalogue online until my new consultant kit arrives!

I have a long list of possible contacts but until I receive my starter kit, I cannot make comments about certain books. I seem to like talking about the “fun” books and ones about animals since most of my friends are into that. I am hoping to find books that Teach ideas, creative thought, ways to investigate and search. I hope to excite children into finding answers to their questions. As a Grandmother, I also like those with family values.

I like highlighting them by age because that is how I found it most easy to shop. But I also love the Shine a light books, the “That’s Not My” series (which I had never heard of before), and the Big Book of Colors. My son really likes the interactive books like the Busy books and the All Better book so I want to make sure I hit on those too.

I want to highlight the books by grade (age) level. Its hard to only choose one type or group of books because all are amazing. Can you point me to a few of your favorite videos that I can share?

It is so hard to narrow it down, right?! Some of the youtube channels I subscribe to for the latest and greatest videos come from Brittan Sanders, troachbooks, Dusty Shell, Usborne Book Hooked, Jordan Johnson, Mary Ellen, Monica Harker, Sara Duch, to name a few! I would check out those channels and see what you like! I also love the videos without anyone talking that just quickly flip through each title with music in the background. 🙂

I will be highlighting you tube videos that overview books by age level. This way my guest could click on the video for the age level they are looking for.

I’d like to highlight the interactive books like the shine-a-light and write-on-wipe-clean learning. I also want to show off the classic comic series and other chapter books for older kids.

Had my Launch Party last week. My sponsor helped me with the whole thing and basically ran the party. Had about 6 people online during the party. Only a few orders but did have one booking!! I did go LIVE a few hours before the party to highlight some of my favorite books!! Pretty fun 🙂

My mom agreed to do a party and some of the people she invited are grandma’s so I found a Grandma’s Essential Bookshelf graphic so I’m going to highlight some story time books, some bedtime books and some activity books that are great for grandma’s to have on hand when the grandkids come to visit. 🙂

Thanks for mentioning that you disable your Facebook newsfeed on your desktop. That is such a great idea and I didn’t even know that it was possible. I did that as soon as I finished watching this video. 🙂

YES! I love grandmas – they’re GREAT customers. I did an exclusive “grandmas party” when I first launched and they had a blast! We had a competition for who had the most grandbabies! Glad you turned the newsfeed off – it’s saved me countless hours of distraction!

Hi I think for my 2nd Launch party I’m going to highlight the “Shine the Light” books. They look really cool. Also, is there a place that has a bunch of different videos of books i can showcase besides the ones I was given for my 1-10 posts?

I love that, Jen! You can include any video you think would be great. I would spend a little time on youtube and subscribe to the book lady channels that you love. So much of this is personal preference. If you need help finding a few to check out, let me know and I’ll point you to my favorites!
